Brimpton Primary School, Berkshire.
TWE win contract to supply and erect purpose built classroom.

Why should we use the TWE system?
The construction system uses only natural and certified materials during the construction process. The building will have excellent insulation properties and a system which provides a climate for all seasons. Soundproofing works very well both vertically and horizontally and the system is quick to erect and modify. There is a wide range of finishes available and the price to quality ratio is excellent.
Are your buildings sustainable?
The materials used in the construction are certified by NaturePlus, the international environmental organisation whose aim is the development of a culture of sustainability in the building sector. We use mostly Nordic Pine, commonly called Mountain Pine (Pinus Mugo). The wood is extremely dense as a result of the slow growth and has an indefinite life span if properly maintained. The wood is straight, grained and has a fine texture.
Are the logs treated?
Before shipment, all logs are kiln-dried and dip-treated against fungal and bacterial attack. Not all suppliers kiln dry their timber which is important to make sure that the wood is workable at the point of erection and does not shrink later on.
How long will my TWE building last?
Your building will have an indefinite life span provided it is properly maintained. There are timber framed houses across the world that are hundreds of years old.
Is my TWE building guaranteed?
All our buildings are covered by a full 10 - year structural warranty and a 1 year workmanship guarantee, provided they are maintained to our recommendations.
Will my TWE building need re-treating?
This depends on the type of wood used. Though they cost more, Cedar and Larch have naturally occurring anti fungal elements in their sap and therefore require maintenance. The standard European Redwood external finishes will need treating every 3-5 years to keep their lustre and to protect them from ultraviolet light, wind and rain. We can advise you.
Do I have to prepare my own foundation?
This depends upon the package that you like. We can prepare the foundations and complete the whole build to the point at which we hand over the keys.
What types of heating are available with a timber home?
A range of domestic central heating systems is available, for example electric heaters or even under floor heating. We also advocate more environmental systems such as solar heating, air source/ground source and heat exchange ventilation systems. Again, we can put you in contact with a number of suppliers. Please go to www.ice energy.co.uk on our links page.
Can I install a wood-burning stove?
Yes, but a brick or stone hearth must be installed to protect the structure together with a ventilation system.
Will I have any difficulty getting insurance for my TWE building?
Our logs have a ½-hour fire certificate carried out by TRADA (Timber Research and Development Association) to a British Standard. Our clients have therefore had no difficulties in obtaining insurance. If your building requires Building Regulations approval, the structure must conform to all requirements under Building Control, including fire resistance.
Can I get finance on my building?
Yes, there are a number of finance houses which are familiar with timber buildings. You can obtain a mortgage, subject to conditions, as well as a finance package to build your timber building.
Are timber buildings cheaper to build than the more traditional brick built houses?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. Typically our 'residential' buildings are about 30% - 40% cheaper than brick built houses of the same size. As importantly they are far cheaper to heat have lower ongoing running costs and are more carbon conscious.
Can TWE construct to my own design?
We can build a structure of almost any size within reason, and for a wide range of different applications.
I already have my own builder. Will TWE supply the structure only?
TWE can provide either a turnkey project or the building only. We would also be happy to work with your own contractors. In most instances our clients prefer us to at the least erect the building as our builders are familiar with the process. We also tend to find that our turnkey price is usually better and almost always with less aggravation.
Can TWE provide a price from my existing architect's plans?
Yes, we can provide a budget cost, or a fixed price quotation if you have full plans approval.
If planning permission is required, will TWE obtain it on my behalf?
Following a site inspection, we will tell you whether we believe planning is required. If it is, we work closely with Architects who are familiar with the buildings and can handle both the planning and Building Control (Building Regs) applications on your behalf.
How do you make sure that no vermin and mould can penetrate or destroy the wood-fibre insulation?
Natural porous salt is added to the wood fibre insulation in the production process, which makes the wood fibre wool undesirable for rodents and also rules out the chance of a mould infection. In addition, metal mesh is installed in the ventilation space between the external siding and wind barrier board, which prevents rodents from entering the structure. There is also sufficient space between the siding and the wall, which ensures that excessive moisture is out of the wall.
The site on which I intend to build has restricted access - will this be a problem?
No. The method in which our buildings are manufactured means that all the components of the building are able to be manhandled through doorways and down alleyways. If there isn't access to the property by our lorries we can arrange to have the building off loaded remotely and brought to site in smaller vehicles.
